Kamaya Point scribes continues sailing forward in AOCPA, RHEPC

The Kamaya Point, the official publication of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), continues to uphold its reputation for journalistic excellence, earning multiple awards in two prestigious campus press competitions.

At the 5th Assumption Outstanding Campus Press Awards (AOCPA) held on January 27, 2025, at the University of the Assumption in San Fernando City, Pampanga, four MAAP midshipmen were recognized for their exceptional writing skills. Midn 2CL Ceddie Tadlas ranked 5th Most Outstanding News Writer, Midn 2CL Franz Joshua Sto. Tomas placed 6th Most Outstanding Editorial Writer, Midn 3CL Georj Andrei Israel secured 10th Most Outstanding Sports Writer, and Midn 1CL Jericho Kyosi Bungihan was named 6th Most Outstanding Feature Writer.

Furthermore, Kamaya Point also made a strong impact at the 23rd Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC), held from February 5-7, 2025, at Palm Cabanas Resort in Arayat, Pampanga. Competing against 37 publications and 542 delegates, Kamaya Point secured multiple awards across various categories. Midn 1CL Roland Keith Ochavo placed 2nd in Development Communication Writing (English) and 7th in Sports Writing (English), while Midn 3CL Georj Andrei Israel earned 5th in Sports Writing (Filipino), 7th in Opinion Writing (Filipino), and 8th in News Writing (Filipino). In the visual and literary arts categories, Midn 3CL Jindrex Dimaala claimed 3rd in Literary Graphics (English) and 8th in Digital Comic Strip Writing (English), and Midn 3CL Keith Martin Fausto placed 9th in Digital Editorial Cartooning (Filipino).

These remarkable achievements highlight the dedication, skill, and passion of MAAP’s midshipmen in the field of campus journalism, further cementing Kamaya Point as a leading student publication in the region.
